Close Up

Thematic Photographic 15 - Colorful Little Fingers

For a couple of weeks now my buddy Carmi over at written, inc. has wanted me to participate in a blog sharing idea. In all honesty I just been too lazy to jump in as well as being a little intimidated by his talent for capturing incredible images. I started really thinking about it this past weekend. I've been looking for some things recently - exercises if you will - to spark my creative energy. This time of year, after who knows how many paintings of palm trees and martinis, I'm slowly burning out of ideas for my canvases.

It really didn't take me too long to figure out this was a no-brainer (doh!). I've been carrying the new camera with me just about everywhere I go these days looking for inspiration. This is truly a perfect way for me to brush up on composition, design elements, depth, and possibly an idea for a new painting.

Now I know there are many of you regular readers are just like me: amatuer photographer wanting to get better. Here's a free course toward becoming better behind the lens. The rules are really, really simple and you'll discover links over at Carmi's place to other aspiring camera lovers. So I expect lots of participation from the Soul Shiners!

Here's the low-down:
  • Every Wednesday evening, Carmi posts a new Thematic Photographic entry.
  • Each entry has a unique theme. This week's is...closeup.
  • You post a similarly themed image over on your blog.
  • You paste a link to your entry in a comment here.
  • If you've already posted something that fits (on a blog, Facebook, MySpace, wherever) simply post the link to the existing entry.
  • You may post one per day, many per day, one each day of the entire week, whatever suits your fancy. This is all about sharing, so feel free to share to your heart's content!
  • Please share this link with friends, too. I want this thing to being photographic happiness to lots of people - and I need your help.
I look forward to seeing what you folks come up with. See ya' at Carmi's!

Oh, I love finger paints... I think it's a favorite of kids, I know it was for my boys when they were young, that and play-doh.

Super closeup photo!

It doesn't get better than squishy fingers! This picture takes me right back to nursery school. I don't have an photos of the moment - parents never really took pictures - but I have a vivid memory of my hands going wrist deep into something as colorful as this.

You've captured it beautifully. Powerful, powerful photo.

If anything, pictures like this intimidate ME :) I love how this little fun thing of mine has blossomed into an opportunity to share and explore. Thank you for jumping in with both hands!
